In a Lubbock Christian University tradition, faculty, staff, administration, and alumni volunteers rally to welcome new students and their families to campus by helping them move into the residence halls – their new home away from home.
“Freshman Move-In Day and the days that follow are always exciting times on campus,” said Sheila Dye, assistant vice president of alumni and community relations. “We have awesome alumni and former students who volunteer to help students move-in to the residence halls.”
This unique day for LCU freshmen students and their families holds a special place in the hearts of the LCU community who all offer their support by welcoming the families and providing extra hands during the move-in process.
Beginning at 9 a.m., the LCU family, including President Tim Perrin and First Lady Lucy Perrin, will help with the task of carrying everything a new student brings with them to college to outfit their new living areas.
“This is one of my favorite times of the year as we prepare to welcome our new students to campus,” said President Tim Perrin. “Move-In Day is full of excitement and anticipation for new students and their families and for the LCU community. The campus community has been hard at work this summer preparing for this day.”
Katie Rogers Hall, home to underclassman women received an update just before the fall semester last year. Renovations to Johnson Hall, the residence hall for freshmen guys were completed within the last week.
However, if alumni can't make it to the move-in, they are invited and encouraged to join the weekend.
“Some are only able to lift prayers on behalf of the faculty, staff, and students due to distance and time constraints,” said Dye. “Others choose to come back for the Go! Finale glow stick devo, attend opening chapel, or engage in worship with students at the first Blur of the semester. These are just a few ways our alumni community gives back.”
