Functional Title: Circulation Assistant
Classification: Hourly, Full-Time
Division: Academics
Department: Library
Reports To: Immediate - Public Services Librarian
Primary Function:  Performs circulation and related processing duties; supervises student workers & part-time staff
Essential Function Oversee circulation desk and provide excellent customer service to all patrons; front-line person to all basic students needs

Major Duties:

  • Check books in and out on an automated system
  • Process reserve materials
  • Produce and maintain fine lists; collect fines; cash drawer oversight
  • Supervise part-time circulation clerks
  • Train support staff to perform all circulation related duties
  • Assist individuals in person or by phone in locating specific library information
  • Assist with basic computer and copier questions
  • Assist students with basic research needs
  • Perform simple bookkeeping and typing, and filing tasks
  • Open and close the library when needed
  • Collect and report on user experience data
  • Liaison to Chap Desk and Facilities
  • Oversee stacks maintenance: shelving, order, and cleanliness
  • Oversee open and close of library when needed
  • Maintain statistics for reports
  • Performs other duties as assigne

Knowledge, Skills and Abilites Required:

  • Ability to interact and work effectively with library personnel, students, faculty, administration and external patrons
  • Ability to successfully communicate and determine needs of patrons
  • Skill in use of standard office equipment and basic computer skills
  • Must be outgoing and tactful; able to enforce rules
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to change
  • Must possess a positive attitude
  • Must uphold and support the mission and core values of Lubbock Christian University

Education and Experience:

  • College: 1 + years required
  • Past work with library or customer service preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Able physically and emotionally to proved public service which involves listening, speaking, lifting, bending and stretching
  • Able to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds
  • Push and pull book carts up to 1,000 pounds
  • Possible exposure to dust, fumes, mechanical and electrical hazards
  • Able to climb multiple flights of stairs and stand on step-stools to reach materials
  • Sitting and standing for long periods of time
