Functional Title: HVAC Technician
Classification: Full time – Hourly (Non-exempt)
Department: Maintenance   
Reports To: Director of Maintenance 
Primary Function: The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing installs, repairs and maintenance to a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation systems and components.

Major Duties:

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, clean, and repair and make modifications to HVAC System.
  • Analyze, Plan, and Perform Preventive Maintenance of HVAC System.
  • Install and start new equipment and controls.
  • Adhere to all city, state, and federal regulatory statutes.
  • Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations.
  • Ability to supervise one or more Mechanics and/or Trades Helpers.
  • Other similar or related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to help students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner.
  • Understands how to use hand and power tools and refrigeration and air conditioning gages, meters, and other similar measuring equipment associated with the trades.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unit of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Understands and has mastered all types of refrigeration and HVAC systems and how each component within the system operates in conjunction with the other components and how that impacts the overall operations of the system as a whole.
  • Ability to read blueprints and HVAC diagrams, repair, and program controls.
  • Strong ability to multitask and problem solve.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Must have current and valid Texas Driver’s License.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Trade or vocational school required and HVAC Certification preferred
  • Must possess a current and valid Texas Journeyman’s Refrigeration License.
  • 3 years of experience preferred.

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:

  • Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
  • Required to regularly sit and stand.
  • Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects.
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
  • Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 50+lbs.
