On September 24, 1957, LCU held its first chapel service. On August 22, 2016, LCU officially opened its 60th year in an opening chapel service.
Opening chapel, known to students as Hogwarts Chapel, included:
- Recognition for the states, countries, and student groups at LCU;
- A presentation of new and returning faculty;
- A welcome by President Tim Perrin and student body president Ondřej Gargula; and
- Praise and worship, including the traditional "The Lord Bless You and Keep You," led by Dr. B. Wayne Hinds, a charter member of the LCU faculty.
For the 60th Anniversary, the university will be hosting a year-long celebration and invites the community to join. A schedule of notable celebration events for the 60th can be found here.
President Tim Perrin expressed a word of welcome to students:
I’m thrilled to welcome our new and returning students to campus as we begin LCU’s 60th year. In only six decades, the university has enjoyed remarkable growth and development, and we give thanks for all those who have sacrificed and given so much to make LCU what it is today. The university’s history is marked by great vision, deep commitment to a common cause, and an unyielding faith in the one from whom all blessings flow. We look forward to celebrating our past while anticipating a future full of possibility and hope.
We welcome an extraordinary group of new students who have great potential and a desire to make a difference in their communities. This is an exciting time at LCU as we continue to expand and enhance our campus, offer our students life changing experiences both in and out of the classroom, and deepen our commitment to our mission. It’s a great day to be a Chap!
