Annual Encounter Camp Encourages High School Students to Encounter God

Encounter, hosted each June at Lubbock Christian University, is created to encourage and support teenagers as they grow their faith and encounter God.

This year, Encounter welcomed 560 campers, 100 sponsors, and 75 counselors and staff to participate in camp activities and spiritually focused lessons. The week included interactive classes, devotionals, worship, evening entertainment, and keynote speakers.

The Encounter theme for 2016 was “One Th1ng,” which encouraged campers to reflect on what one thing is most valuable in their lives, and how to make that one thing Jesus. Evidence of the theme was scattered around campus: one blue flag in a sea of red flags, a single pink post-it note on a wall of yellow post-it notes, and more.

This year, the evening entertainment featured Heath Austin, John Crist, and The Afters. Previously, Encounter has welcomed entertainers such as The Skit Guys, Unspoken, and more to provide a unique experience for campers each year.

LCU annually hosts camps like Encounter, Champion, and more during the summer months. To find out more about Encounter and other camp experiences that LCU hosts, click here or follow LCU Summer Camps on Facebook.
