Lubbock Christian University's student business group, Enactus, has teamed with Bolinger, Segars, Gilbert, and Moss, LLP for a family fun baseball event to collect canned food for the South Plains Food Bank.
Strike Out Hunger will begin at 11:45 am at Hays Field on April 12, where guests can enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs complimentary of SAMs. Individuals need to bring five cans of food for entry, or a family can bring ten cans of food for entry. Extra cans will be required for visitors who wish to participate in games and activities. Prizes will be given.
Guests can cheer on the Lady Chaps during this time, as they play University of Texas of the Permian Basin at noon on the softball field. The Chap Baseball team will play at Hays field at 1 pm against Arkansas—Fort Smith.
Following the game, kids will have the opportunity to take the field, run the bases, and meet members of LCU’s baseball and softball teams.
Enactus organized this event to fulfill a requirement for the Campbell’s Let’s Can Hunger grant they received. Grant requirements included putting together two separate projects, one addressing long term hunger in a sustainable way and the other addressing short term hunger. Strike Out Hunger is intended to fulfill the second requirement. The first requirement was fulfilled in the fall when Enactus raised money through their day of activities, “Hunger Games,” to fund a greenhouse in Kenya.
LCU Enactus, formerly known as SIFE, is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic, and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. As members of Enactus, students are led by advisors and business experts to create and implement community empowerment projects to promote the Free Enterprise economic system right here in Lubbock.
Such projects include Enactus’s financial literacy seminar for incoming freshmen known as Freshmen Money Slam Jam. Enactus is currently working on another project, ChapTank, a business entrepreneurial competition.
