Encounter LE Serves as Winter Spiritual Retreat for Middle & High School Students

Encounter LE, a weekend spiritual retreat to allow middle school and high school students a winter Encounter experience, was held Nov. 20 – 22. In its second year, Encounter LE provided a break for students to come to LCU and celebrate God during the school year.

“Encounter LE is a break for these students from their daily life – a moment taken out of their normal activities – to focus on God. They get to see their friends from camp that they haven’t seen in months. And it brings them to campus,” said Terri Warren, LCU Special Events Coordinator.

Encounter LE is a free retreat – including meals, registration, and entertainment – though attendees must be able to plan their own lodging. Entertainment this year included SandStory artist, Joe Castillo, and Christian hip hop band, Group 1 Crew. The three-day retreat served as a spiritual rejuvenation for students, inspired in style by the week long summer camp, Encounter.

Encounter is hosted in June on LCU campus with an atmosphere created to encourage and support teenagers as they grow their faith. The week includes interactive classes, spiritual devotionals, nightly worship, evening entertainment, and keynote speakers. Encounter has welcomed The Skit Guys, Christian pop rock band, Unspoken, and more to provide a unique and valuable experience for campers each year.

Encounter LE began when a couple of youth ministers suggested that an additional Encounter event may be beneficial for their youth groups. About 200 kids were expected to attend the debut event.

In its first year, 650 students attended. This year, LCU welcomed 850 students to campus for Encounter LE.

“The Moody was spectacular,” said Warren. “It was so full, and the singing was so beautiful.”
