Lady Chaps Basketball Ranked No.1 in Polls

The new national rankings have been released and Lubbock Christian University's women's basketball team is No.1 by both D2SIDA and WBCA/USA Today (Coaches Poll).
This season marks LCU's second season eligible in the D2SIDA poll and the first in the Coaches Poll. Last week marked LCU's debut at No.1 in the D2SIDA Poll and Tuesday, Jan. 26 marks their debut in the Coaches Poll. LCU received eight of 15 first-place votes in the D2SIDA poll and seven of 24 first-place votes in the Coaches Poll.  The D2SIDA poll is voted on by sports information directors and the WBCA/USA Today is voted on by WBCA coaches.
Here are some reasons why LCU is garnering national attention:

  • With a 17-0 record, LCU is one of three programs in the nation still undefeated.
  • LCU has won 14 of 17 of their games by 20 or more points.
  • Nonconference wins include wins over Clayton State (16-1) and CSU-Pueblo (15-4).
  • LCU has been in the lead in 89.4% of their season and have trailed 6.2% of their season.
  • LCU is third in the nation with a 49.5% shooting percentage and in field goal defense at 32.4%.
  • LCU is second in the nation in scoring margin (27.6) and in scoring defense (52.1).
  • The Lady Chaps lead the nation in blocks per game (6.6).
  • The three-point shooting for LCU ranks seventh in the nation at 39.9%.
  • LCU ranks fifth in the nation in rebounding margin (10.4).
