Lubbock Christian University's men's golf and women's basketball program led the Heartland Conference in their sport-GPAs, as they helped LCU rank second in the conference with a department-wide 3.27 GPA for the 2017-18 school term.
The Lady Chaparrals basketball program racked up a 3.75 GPA, which was the highest GPA for a team in any sport in the Heartland Conference. They improved to a 3.75 GPA following a mark of 3.73 in 2016-17.
Men's golf improved from a 3.45 GPA in 2016-17 to a 3.57 GPA this season. The mark was the highest mark by a men's team in all sports within the Heartland Conference.
The two programs helped LCU to a 3.27 department GPA, which ranked second in the Heartland Conference. LCU's volleyball (3.64), women's cross country (3.57) and women's golf (3.50) also produced at least a 3.50 GPA.
Softball and men's basketball showed the biggest improvement over the prior season. Softball improved from a 3.12 to a 3.30 GPA, and men's basketball improved from a 3.05 to a 3.20 GPA.
For another consecutive season, the Heartland Conference was able to progress their conference-wide GPA. The conference went from a 3.14 GPA in 2015-16, to a 3.19 GPA in 2016-17 and a 3.22 this season.
