LCU alumnus and former men’s basketball player, J.D. (Jerry) Isler, 52, was tragically lost in a vehicle accident on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Isler graduated from LCU in 1985. He was a member of the men’s basketball team that won the first conference championship in 1983 and was a teammate of President Perrin. Isler’s son, Jaden, also attended LCU and was a member of the men’s basketball team in 2009.
In an interview with KCBD NewsChannel 11, Perrin described Isler as a wonderful and unselfish teammate that made the team better from day one. Isler was a longtime basketball coach, serving 10 years at Clovis and eight years in Grady, NM. He also made stops at New Mexico Junior College, Texas-Arlington, and McMurry University. Isler was coaching his first year at Elida NM High School at the time of his death.
Funeral services for Isler will be held in Clovis, NM on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. in the Clovis High School gymnasium.
