The College Republicans are hoping to educate peers at their annual Candidate Forum today, January 21, from 7pm-9pm in the Baker Conference Center. The group of college students are hosting a handful of candidates who will appear on Texas ballets in March, including Lisa Fritsch who is running for Governor, Dr. Donald May who is running for the 19th Congressional seat, and John Frullo and Charles Perry who are both running for State Representative reelection.
“Our goal is to raise awareness about candidates,” says College Republican President and Junior Criminal Justice Major, Chase Stewart. “We want to give college students the opportunity to have a one-on-one experience with the candidates in order to educate the constituency on the upcoming election.”
Each candidate will give a five minute speech. Following the speeches, candidates will be seated at booths around the conference center for guests to visit and ask questions. Wayne Christian, Jon David Bruegel, Glen Hegar, and David Watts will also be present to give their speech, along with other candidates and representatives.
“For college students, the choices that are made in Austin now will have a greater impact on us once we graduate and are in the work force,” explains Chase Stewart. “To avoid future obstacles we need to make educated votes now.”
The College Republicans would like to remind college students and Lubbock citizens that primaries begin March 4 and elections are in November. The College Republicans are opening today's forum to the public, free of charge.
