The Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced the 2018 WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America team and making the team from Lubbock Christian University was Tess Bruffey. The WBCA also announced Steve Gomez a the South Central Region Coach of the Year.
Bruffey becomes the program's first two-time All-America selection by WBCA, last season claiming honorable mention honors. To kick-off the March postseason awards, Bruffey became just the third player in Heartland Conference history to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards. The senior also became the first player in conference history to win both the Player of the Year and Defender of the Year award in the same season.
Nicole Hampton is the only other Lady Chap to receive All-America honors by the WBCA (2016). Bruffey was recognized by the WBCA at the Elite Eight Banquet Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Leading the Lady Chaps to their second South Central Region Tournament title, head coach Steve Gomez claims his second Region Coach of the Year honor by the WBCA, and it comes in a three-year span. The 2016 WBCA NCAA Div. II National Coach of the Year also claimed Heartland Conference Coach of the Year honors earlier this season for a second time in his career.
