Art Education

BFA in Art with Emphasis in K-12 Education

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with an Emphasis in K-12 Education at Lubbock Christian University prepares the student for a career as an art educator. Through this degree plan, students learn the precepts of “art” and “art-making”: visual literacy, critical thinking, hard work, and empathy in social practice.

Sample courses include studio courses (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics), Art History, and Art Pedagogy, such as Curriculum & Assessment in K-12 Art and Contemporary Issues in Art Education. Senior capstone experience includes Clinical Teaching and a senior project (such as development of a body of artwork for exhibition, development of a grant proposal project, or creation and implementation of a community arts program). Students will also complete a supporting block of coursework through the School of Education toward teacher certification.

Join us in a program where you share your art knowledge and passion with a community of learners! Graduates with the Art Education emphasis will certify to teach in K-12 public schools, but they may also teach in community arts programs, senior living centers, and art museum education programs.

Imagine a degree in Art Education that involves you in a variety of art experiences—from the making of art, to art theory, exhibitions, pedagogical practices, and to contributions to the field through professional conferences.

LCU former art students and graduates in art have gone on to teach in universities and in public and private schools and in community arts throughout Texas and the Southwest. They are working as designers in television stations, design firms, and museums. They have garnered state, national, and international recognition for their art, with their work represented in collections and in solo and group exhibitions across the U.S. and the world. LCU art students’ work and scholarship have been accepted to state and national peer-reviewed exhibitions, conferences, and publications. Join this extraordinary league of artists today!
