Author and speaker <link http: jenhatmaker.com about.htm>Jen Hatmaker visited LCU campus for a special presentation in the Rip Griffin Center that challenged, encouraged, and inspired those in attendance.
“An Inspiring Evening with Jen Hatmaker” on April 19 was the second event in the Inspiring Evening series. Bob Goff spoke at the inaugural event in October 2015.
Well-known especially among Christian women, Hatmaker has published a total of 11 books including the bestselling “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess,” “Interrupted: When Jesus Wrecks Your Comfortable Christianity,” and, most recently, “For the Love.”
In addition to penning bestselling books and speaking on spirituality, Hatmaker is a mother to five, a minister’s wife, a popular blogger, the star of HGTV series “My Big Family Renovation,” and a proud lover of Jesus Christ.
"If God has put something on your heart,” Hatmaker told the audience at LCU, “stay the course, don't give up hope, and let God work out the rest."
Hatmaker’s message on discipleship resounded with attendees at the second “Inspiring Evening” event sponsored by Carpet Tech, Betenbough Homes, and the Dusty Womble family.
Laci Richardson, strength and conditioning coach for the Lady Chaps national champion basketball team, felt Hatmaker spoke truth in a challenging and forthcoming way.
“Her messages during the dinner and event that evening were timely, thoughtful, and honest,” said Richardson. “She brought a spirit of unity to the campus - bringing together genders, ages, and life stages. It was an impactful evening for all involved."
The evening included a dinner, photo opportunities, two Q&As with Hatmaker, a silent auction, and Hatmaker’s highly anticipated presentation.
The Rip was decorated in a shabby chic style befitting of Hatmaker’s personality. Table centerpieces were donations of household items from LCU faculty, staff, and community that will benefit seven families through the Habitat for Humanity program of Lubbock.
A silent auction composed of items from various donors ran during and after the event. The proceeds contributed to student scholarships.
