Biography

Bill Kopf, Director of Distance Learning for Lubbock Christian University and adjunct instructor of Organizational Management.

Kopf is an elder at the Green Lawn Church of Christ. Raised in Lancaster, PA, he married his wife, Nora in 1968 in Clovis, NM and they have three children: Jonathon, Kelcie and Abbie.

Kopf retired from teaching at Lubbock Independent School District. In addition he taught at Clovis High School, Clovis, NM and Coahoma ISD, Coahoma, TX where he served as Public Relations Director for the district and sponsored the yearbook and newspaper.

Prior to moving to Texas Kopf worked for the Tampa Tribune-Times in Tampa Florida, The Clovis News Journal, and was a contributing writer for Southwest, a magazine published in New Mexico. He was both the fulltime adviser and substitute adviser for the Texas Tech Newspaper, The University Daily, between 1983 and 1996.

Kopf received the ILPC Edith Fox King award, and was named an ILPC Texas Legend of Scholastic Journalism. He taught journalism for 28 years, 19 at Lubbock High School where he advised the student newspaper, literary magazine and yearbook, taught journalism and photography, and coached Ready Writing, Current Issues and Events, Literary Criticism and Journalism UIL teams. He also taught journalism and management courses for Texas Tech University Continuing Education, Lubbock Christian University and South Plains College. He co-wrote and designed a journalism course for Texas Tech, which won a first place award from the National Continuing Education Association. He wrote and designed the Journalism II course for Tech, published in 1999. The Lubbock ISD recognized Kopf for his contributions to interactive television within the district, and he was named Outstanding Faculty Member for South Plains College for 1998.

Kopf has judged each year since 2001 for district and/or regional meets for high schools in the region.
