Lucy Porter graduated from Texas Tech University with a M.S. in microbiology and B.S. in zoology. Since joining the Natural Sciences Department in 2000, she has taught the Microbiology Labs and Human Biology and has mentored many students in undergraduate research with a microbiological emphasis. These projects have encompassed extensive studies on the effects of migratory fowl on the water quality of playa lakes. Her community involvement includes guiding young students with science fair projects.
Lucy’s students have presented their findings at many annual National Conferences on Undergraduate Research, and she was recognized as the 2011 Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year at the LCU Scholars Colloquium. She has served as the chair of the LCU Committee on Undergraduate Research and holds memberships in the American Society of Microbiology.
Lucy enjoys her adult children, reading, watching British television productions, gardening and especially supporting Lady Chap’s basketball and other LCU sports. She feels she could not work in a better place than LCU or with better people. Go Chaps!!
