25 years ago, the world was introduced to the film version of The Princess Bride, many meeting William Goldman's Inigo Montoya, Fezzik, Miracle Max, the albino dungeon keeper with a frog in his throat, and an impressive clergyman with a speech impediment for the very first time. Very few movies are as quotable as The Princess Bride, which was based on William Goldman’s book and screenplay.

Now it's our turn.

The Princess Bride has been chosen for this year's 4th annual Reading Marathon and Writing Carnival, and I hope that you will support the events with your presence and your participation.

Please mark your calendars for the following events:

Monday, Sept. 16: The Princess Bride costume contest, 8:30 p.m., in front of the Sub, followed by a showing of the film at 8:45 p.m. Bring your family and friends and lawn chairs and blankets for a free movie and non-lethal refreshments.

Tuesday, Sept. 17: Reading marathon begins at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the Moody; join us throughout the day and night as students, faculty, and staff recite a story of bravery and daring and--or course--twue wuv.

Wednesday, Sept. 18: Reading marathon ends at 11:30 a.m.; Writing Carnival begins with lunch in the mall area and writing contests.

Monday, Sept. 23: Writing Carnival event winners announced in chapel; winners will be invited to the stage at the end of chapel to collect their prizes.

Let the fun and games begin, or better yet, let's have fun storming 'da castle.
