Functional Title: Library Technologist; Serials Assistant
Classification: Hourly (11 month full-time with benefits)
Department: Library
Reports to: Library Director/Electronic Resources Librarian
Primary Function: Provides reliable and responsive assistance in use of library technology to patrons and staff.
Essential Functions: Provides technology support to library staff; maintains library website; generates reports and statistics.

Principal Responsibilities:     

  • Participate in updating and maintenance of the library website
  • Work closely with professional librarians to deliver online library services
  • Assist in maintenance of electronic resources (web access, library OPAC, eBooks) under the guidance of the Electronic Resources Librarian
  • Generate reports from the library automation system and library website
  • Assist in staff training on the use of electronic resources
  • Manage the periodicals collection
  • Provide coverage for the circulation desk as needed
  • Attend appropriate meetings, workshops, and webinars
  • Receive, record, and maintain incoming periodicals; maintain serials in library catalog
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Some college coursework, Bachelor’s degree in a computer related program preferred
  • Some professional experience working with the public, publishing software and web design

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively and easily communicate technical topics to novices
  • Ability to work and communicate with library management and staff in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new and emerging technologies
  • Web development skills strongly desired
  • Works nights or weekends to be responsive to problems with the system
  • Must uphold and support the mission and core values of Lubbock Christian University
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:

  • Able to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds
  • Possible exposure to dust, fumes, mechanical and electrical hazards
  • Required to regularly sit and stand
  • Able to climb multiple flights of stairs and stand on step-stools/ladders
  • Evening or weekend work as required
  • Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects
  • Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly
  • Ambulatory around campus and in buildings
