Tutoring Coordinator

Functional Title: Tutoring Coordinator
Classification: Salary position - Exempt           
Division: Institutional Effectiveness
Department: Center for Student Success       
Reports To: Director of Center for Student Success

Primary Function: Contribute to student success by connecting tutors with clients.  Establish and maintain congenial relationships with everyone involved in the tutoring program.

Major Duties:

  • Be responsible for administration, supervision, and day-to-day operations of the tutoring center.
  • Stay current with tutoring services best practices in higher education 
  • Recruit, select, train, and provide supervision, development, and consultation for tutors and student workers
  • Schedule tutoring times for 200-300 hours per week for each semester.
  • Have at least one Tutor Training session every semester.
  • Develop training materials for the tutors.
  • Keep attendance for every client and tutor.
  • Follow up with tutors and clients to ensure that tutoring is effective and mutually beneficial. 
  • Connect with faculty members to request tutor referrals and partner in the students learning experience.
  • Assess tutoring program and provide data to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness
  • Serve on the Academic Appeals Committee and other committees as needed.
  • Work with students who are not in good academic standing to get them connected with tutoring services
  • Work effectively with the other offices in the Center for Student Success.
  • Be familiar with disability services, testing protocols and mentoring duties
  • Be available to students that may need support, compassion, and counsel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Accountability:           

The Tutoring Coordinator reports to the Center for Student Success Director, and must:

  • Maintain conduct consistent with Christian values and the values of the university.
  • Work with other university personnel to ensure all students have access.
  • Work closely with LCU faculty and staff to ensure that students know about tutoring resources.
  • Work closely with CSS team members to provide excellent resources for students.

Skills Required:

  • Have a desire to help students reach academic success
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess skill in supervision, communication and relationships.
  • Have necessary computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Have exceptional organizational skills.
  • Be willing to postpone other duties and help students.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential
  • Have the ability to work effectively with professors.
  • Knowledge of higher education academic requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Required: Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Have a record of successful administrative and/or appropriate student service experience

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:

  • Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
  • Required to regularly sit and stand.
  • Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects.
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
  • Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 25+lbs.
