Job Description: The Texas Public Health Fellowship is a one-year paid, training program for individuals early in their public health careers or interested in starting a career in public health. Fellows will receive hands-on experience in public health, professional development, and career guidance. Fellows could come from a wide variety of backgrounds, levels of education, and have varied interests.
The mission of the Lubbock Public Health Department is to protect and improve the health, safety, and welfare of the Lubbock community. The department oversees the following areas:
- Public Health Emergency Preparedness
- Disease Surveillance & Epidemiology
- Vaccination Services and vaccine promotion
- Sexually Transmitted Infection Clinic
- Health education
- Case Management
The fellow will work in the health promotion section on the LBK Community project under the supervision of the LBK Community Coordinator. LBK Community is a network of 30 medical and social service providers working to address Social Determinants of Health in the community by improving coordination and linkages to care. The fellow will be trained in the LBK community platform, will assist providers navigate the platform and work on one with local residents who need help accessing medical and/or social resources.
The fellow will have the opportunity to participate in community outreach activities, attend community meetings and support the onboarding of new providers. The fellow will have opportunities to learn about local public health services, engage with municipal government leaders, and travel to state level conferences and meetings.
Job Requirements: Able to commit to full-time to Texas Public Health Fellowship for duration of fellowship (June 1, 2023-May 31, 2024) during regular business hours (8:00am-5:00pm). Able to be in-person, onsite at the City of Lubbock Health Department.
