A Message From the Dean

Dr. Jeff Cary

Welcome to the Alfred and Patricia Smith College of Biblical Studies!

Our mission is to form students in the wisdom of the Christian tradition so they are able to effectively and energetically join Jesus Christ’s ongoing work of bringing all things in heaven and on earth in line with God’s intentions. We fulfill our mission by teaching four general education courses for the LCU student body and by offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in biblical studies and ministry.

We are unwaveringly committed to spiritual formation, academic excellence, and practical ministry experience. There are infinite ways God can use the formation you will receive with us. Come learn and share life with us! You will be warmly received here!

Mission

The Department of Biblical Studies is committed to the Scriptures as wholly inspired and authoritative, and its mission is to instruct and guide students to an intellectual grasp of Scripture, to a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and into active service in the life of the church and community. This mission is especially expressed in the preparation of men and women to serve as informed, effective, caring ministers within the kingdom of God.

Fulfilling the Mission

Youth Minster, First Christian Church, Lubbock, TX

LCU’s Youth and Family Ministry program equipped me to enter ministry as a pastor, theologian, missionary, teacher, preacher, and philosopher with confidence. Not only did I feel equipped to minister to teens, I was prepared to engage with family systems and church dynamics. From the intentional mentorship of the professors to the densely crafted course load, I felt ready as I entered into the ministry.

 

One thing I love about the program is the ongoing relationships with my professors after I graduated. They still provide encouragement and wisdom to help me “run the race.” The Youth and Family Ministry program at LCU is perfect for anyone who is called to ministry and who wants to deeply mature in faith.
