Best Friends

Best Friends

Since 1983, Best Friends has been spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through song. BF performs a cappella arrangements of today's popular Contemporary Christian music as well as praise and worship.

The group travels to churches and schools letting potential students know about the educational opportunities at LCU. Best Friends serves as a praise team for youth rallies such as Soul Link and summer camps such as LCU's Encounter. In addition to the concert stage, ensemble members serve not only as worship leaders but mentors to youth groups at high school retreats.

Voice Part: Soprano

This is my second year in Best Friends and it is hands down my favorite thing to do. Traveling with some of my favorite people to sing about my Savior - it doesn’t get much better than that! I came to LCU because it felt like home, and I am passionate about the LCU community. I love getting involved in things all over campus (especially in music things). After graduating I hope to go to PT School and then pursue a career as a physical therapist.

Mikaela Cates
Classification: Sophomore
Major: Elementary Education
Hometown: Clyde, Texas
Voice Part: Soprano

I have always loved to sing. I love the joy that I can provide people through song. Best Friends has been the most challenging, but rewarding choral experience of my life. This has allowed me to worship in a whole new and wonderful way. Not only that, but I’m able to help bring others the same experiences. God is so good.

This is my first year in Best Friends and I absolutely love it! Being able to worship God in this way is such an awesome opportunity. You get to meet so many new people and hear all their stories and that is super cool. I love LCU and everything it has to offer! I stay super busy with being on Blur committee and being an RA at Katie Rogers Hall. After I graduate in May, I hope to eventually pursue a career as a Child Life Specialist.

Lacy Chappell
Classification: Senior
Major: Social Work
Hometown: Snyder Tx
Voice Part: Tenor/Alto

This is my third year in Best Friends, and what a blessing it has been. It has given me a chance to be in communion daily with my God, making it possible for me to always have new ways of listening to him and giving him praise. Getting to minister to people in this way is such an amazing experience, and I am excited about this year and what it brings. Since this is my last year, I am hoping to work and serve as a medical social worker, hopefully pursuing my masters degree in social work.

Tori Acosta
Classification: Senior
Major: Biology/Medicine emphasis
Hometown: Seminole, TX
Voice Part: Alto

Lubbock Christian University has provided me with numerous opportunities for service and involvement. I enjoy dedicating my time to the Pre-Health Professional’s Club, Christliche Damen, and to Best Friends. After I complete my time here, I plan on attending medical school to become a physician. My fields of interest include pediatric oncology, emergency medicine and family medicine, but I will leave the final decision to God himself. Best Friends has become such a big part of not only my LCU journey, but my spiritual journey as well. One thing that I have learned throughout my time with Best Friends is how important it is to let God take the lead. On stage, I am simply a voice for Him to use to spread the message. This group has provided me with so many amazing opportunities that have shaped my faith. This will be my third year with the group and I cannot wait to see what this year holds!

Clayton Henriksen
Classification: Junior
Major: Theatre Education
Hometown: Overland Park, Ks
Voice Part: Tenor

Music has been a big part of my life since I was young. When I came to LCU I thought Best Friends was cool, but I was too scared to tryout. It took me two years to get that courage, but now that I’m in the group I couldn’t be happier. Spreading the word of God through music is a unique experience that I will always cherish.

Nathan Hull
Classification: Senior

Hometown: Burleson, Texas

This is my fourth year in Best Friends. The past four years have been the best and most rewarding years of my life. I love singing and worshiping God. When I graduate, I hope to work in a church with the youth or leading worship.

Luke Shelburne
Classification: Junior
Major: Biblical Text and Preaching
Hometown: Abilene, TX
Voice Part: Bass

The community at LCU has been a great blessing to me over the last couple of years, and I love the people and organizations I've gotten connected with here. Before this semester started, I wasn't necessarily expecting to be a part of Best Friends, but I really look forward to seeing what God has planned for us through the course of this year. I love music and I believe it's a powerful way to connect with people and break down barriers that are hard to overcome otherwise. God bless and peck 'em, Chaps.

Logan Parks
Classification: Freshman
Major: Math with engineering emphasis
Hometown: Shallowater, Texas
Voice Part: Bass/Vocal Percussion

Music has always been one of my favorite passions. I love the ability to tell a story though words in a song and to give that song life with emotions when singing. This is my first year at LCU and being in Best Friends has really helped me acclimate to the new experience of living on your own. Everyone cares for each other and expresses God's love through their work. I am so thankful that I have the ability to do what I love with people who love and care for me.
