Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Christian Ministry is for those who desire to increase their biblical and theological knowledge while also sharpening their ministry skills. Applicants are not required to have ministry experience. The program is a suitable next step for those with a bachelor's degree in any field who want academic and practical training for ministry in various settings. Whether you are in a ministry position full time, part time, volunteer, or preparing, this program can help provide confidence for your service. All courses are offered online to accommodate your daily schedule.

About the Master of Arts in Christian Ministry

The estimated total cost for the MACM is $18,500. Students will also need to budget for additional fees and the cost of books.

MACM courses vary in length between 8 and 16 weeks. The MACM advisor will answer specific questions about course length during advising.

Degree seeking students are eligible for financial assistance. Limited tuition assistance may be available. Contact Donna Taylor for information.

Students applying to the MACM will need:

  1. 120-hour bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  2. 3.0 minimum undergraduate GPA
  3. References
  4. Interview

Deadline for August start date is August 1st

Deadline for January start date is December 1st.

Competence in interpretation of, and engagement with, Christian Scripture

  1. Create readings/interpretations appropriate for a contemporary audience using basic hermeneutical principles

Broad knowledge and appreciation of Christian history and theology

  1. Explain the importance of significant concepts, people, and events for Christian history and theology
  2. Evaluate contemporary topics/ issues in religion and culture in light of Christian history and theology
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with the origins, aims, and values of the Stone-Campbell movement

Competence in spiritual formation of self and others

  1. Describe the options and obligations of ministers/ spiritual directors in their formation role(s) for others in congregational settings
  2. Articulate the approaches, aims, preferred resources, and experiences for one’s own spiritual formation and growth

Culturally sensitive integration in practice of ministry

  1. Describe and evaluate how Scripture, theology, and spiritual formation can be brought to bear on contemporary congregational settings
  2. Practice effective preaching in congregational setting
