First Time Freshmen 2024-25 — West Texas Promise

LCU’s West Texas Promise is our promise to first time beginning freshmen that they will receive a minimum of $28,000 over four years and potentially up to $40,000 over four years. The West Texas Promise award amount is determined by high school GPA. Eligible students must apply and be accepted for admission. Students who submit a completed FAFSA and any requested supporting documentation and enroll full-time are eligible for institutional scholarships in addition to LCU’s West Texas Promise. Scholarship Kickoff: An additional $1,000-$2,000 is possible through LCU’s Scholarship Kickoff in February. There is no GPA requirement to maintain this award which is in addition to West Texas Promise.

LCU Grants and Student Success Scholarships

Grants and scholarships are available to qualified beginning transfer students.

Be sure to submit the required forms early so that your awards can be locked-in as funding levels for some programs are limited.

Qualifying for Grants and Scholarships

  • All grants and scholarship awards are contingent upon unconditional acceptance into LCU.
  • Qualification is based on your cumulative transfer grade point average.
  • You must be enrolled full-time to receive grant or scholarship awards.
  • Grants and scholarship awards are renewable for up to five years as long as you maintain the required full-time enrollment status and cumulative GPA.
  • Student Success Scholarships range from $5,500 to $11,000 per year and increase by $500 each year if you maintain the required GPA and full-time status during the academic year (consecutive fall and spring semesters).
  • Eligibility for awards is reviewed annually.

Various LCU Scholarships

  • All students receiving any form of financial aid are required to complete LCU's financial aid application process.
  • Recipients of LCU scholarships must be full-time students.
  • Maximum LCU scholarship award may not exceed full tuition.
  • Scholarships are awarded for fall and spring only.
  • Scholarships may be available for up to five years. See Scholarship detail regarding the limit to the number of years of eligibility.
  • LCU reserves the right to combine scholarships in the manner most beneficial to the student, as well as the university.

There is a 50% tuition discount for full-time students who were under the care of a children's home during the past year. You may use this discount for up to 4 years. This discount cannot be combined with any other LCU awards. You must maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA. To apply, please send verification of your stay at the children's home to the Financial Assistance Office.

There is a 25% tuition discount for dependent, full-time students whose parent works full-time at a Christian school or academy. This discount may be combined with other institutionally funded scholarships, except athletic awards and the Bible Scholarship. The Christian School/Academy must be accredited with the state for levels K-12. This discount may be used up to 5 years. The student's parent must continue to work full-time at a Christian school or academy. The student must also maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50. To apply, send verification of parent's full-time employment to the Financial Assistance Office.  

 Any full-time beginning freshman student who graduates from a private Christian school will receive a $1000 scholarship per year for up to 5 years. You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50. 

Cornerstone Scholars is a nomination-based, full-tuition scholarship opportunity at Lubbock Christian University that calls for student leaders who imitate Christ, the chief Cornerstone for all believers.

There is a 50% tuition discount for dependent, full-time students whose parents are currently living and working full-time in a foreign mission field. You may use this discount up to 5 years. This discount cannot be combined with any other LCU awards. Your parents must continue to work in the mission field, and you must maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA. To apply, send verification of work in a foreign mission field (e.g. a letter from the supporting church in the United States) to the Financial Assistance Office.

Any full-time beginning freshman student who has graduated from a home school program can receive a $500 scholarship per year for up to 5 years. You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50.

The Honors Scholarship is available to both beginning freshmen and transfer students. Full-time beginning freshmen with an ACT score of at least 27 or SAT of 1260 (1280 beginning Fall 2023) or higher may apply for the Honors Scholarship. Transfer students must have a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.40 and have been in an Honors Program at their previous school. Scholarships amounts are determined by  Dr. Patty and may be renewed up to 5 years. You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4. These scholarships are awarded to new full-time students based on previous scholastic performance. You must maintain a required cumulative GPA to keep the award. Transfer - attempted college for at least one long semester after graduating from high school.

This award follows the same description and requirements of the LCU Grant Program with one addition. Students will receive a $500 per year increase if they maintain the minimum required GPA and full-time status during the academic year (consecutive fall and spring semesters). The scholarship increase is limited to 4 years.

This scholarship is determined by the National Merit Corporation and is awarded in the spring of your senior year of high school. Please send the Financial Assistance Office a copy of your certificate. Full-time students may receive this award for up to 5 years. You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 Award amounts:

  • Finalist - full tuition
  • Semi-finalist - $2,000/year
  • Commendation - $500/year

There is a 50% tuition discount for full-time students whose parent works full-time at a sister college or university. This discount may be used up to 5 years. This discount cannot be combined with any other LCU awards. Your parent must continue to work full-time at a sister college or university, and you must maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA. To apply, send verification of your parent's full-time employment to the Financial Assistance Office. 

LCU awards a $6000 per year tuition scholarship for Bible Majors. This scholarship is a fall/spring only award  up to 5 years, and student must be full-time. The Financial Assistance Office needs a copy of the "Bible Scholarship Agreement Form" before the scholarship can be processed. The Bible Scholarship Agreement Form may be requested from the Financial Assistance Office. See "Bible Scholarship Agreement Form" for details. The Bible Scholarship will stack with any academic and honors scholarships.

Best Friends is an a-cappella vocal group made up of LCU students. Scholarship for participating in Best Friends:                    

  • $8500/year
  • Scholarship is for fall/spring ONLY 
  • Must be full-time 
  • Financial Assistance Office needs contract from the Director of Best Friends before processing scholarship. 
  • Best Friends Scholarship will stack with other institutional awards, including discounts, up to amount of tuition charges. 
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 minimum 

Various scholarships are available for Camp Counselors.

Must be full-time. 

                   

Must be pre-approved through the Summer Camp Office before serving as a camp counselor. 

                 

Financial Assistance Office needs "Camp Counselor Agreement Form" from the Summer Camp Office before the scholarship can be processed.

Camp Counselor Scholarship will stack with other institutional awards, including discounts, up to the amount of tuition charges.   

                   

Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 minimum.  

                   

Must be a full-time student during the spring semester prior to being a camp counselor 

Various scholarships are available to students who participate in chorus groups: Chamber Singers, Forte, Praise, Symphonic Band

Scholarship is for fall/spring ONLY 

                   

Must be full-time 

                   

Financial assistance office needs verification from appropriate chorus director             

                   

Chorus Scholarships will stack with institutional aid, including discounts, up to the amount of tuition charges.

$500 per year scholarships are available for students who have immediate family members who are enrolled in an undergraduate program at LCU

$1,000 per semester scholarship for the grandchild of a person that worked for LCU for 20 years or more

South Plains College Graduate Scholarship

LCU is closing the gap in tuition costs with competing universities, making a private, Christian education affordable for you. As a graduate of South Plains College and a newly enrolled LCU student, you could qualify for up to $16,872 per year in grants and scholarships.

Your SPC associate degree qualifies you for an automatic $6,000 scholarship each year. The associate’s degree must be earned upon separation from SPC. To be eligible for the award, students must be enrolled full-time and must sign a scholarship agreement form. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50. The scholarship may be combined with other institutionally funded scholarships, except for athletic awards.

Academic scholarships range from $3,000 - $7,000 for a college GPA of 2.5 or higher.

You may also qualify for the need-based Texas Tuition Equalization Grant. This is an estimated $3,872 per year grant awarded to Texas residents attending private colleges. Application is automatic and eligibility is determined through FAFSA.

Federal and State Grant Opportunities

Federal Pell Grant

This grant is only available to undergraduate students. The award amount is determined by the federal government and is based upon the information reported on the FAFSA. The federal government has limited the number of semesters for which you may receive a Pell Grant. 

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

This grant is only available to undergraduate students. The award amount is determined by the student's financial need and the availability of the funds at the school.

Texas Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG)

This state funded need-based grant is available to undergraduate students who are Texas residents. The award amount is determined by the student's financial need and the availability of the funds at the school. Students receiving athletic scholarships or students enrolled in a theological degree program are not eligible for this grant.
