Position:

Assistant Professor of English, tenure-track, nine-month appointment (with potential summer employment)

The Department of Humanities:

The Department of Humanities consists of faculty teaching English, Geography, Government, History, Humanities, Law Studies, Linguistics, and Spanish within the Hancock College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in English with four different specializations: Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, and Professional Writing.

Qualifications:

The Department of Humanities seeks a highly qualified educator/scholar to contribute to continuing excellence in our undergraduate English programs. The ideal candidate should possess a strong commitment to teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts curriculum. The successful candidate will not only have teaching experience but would also be interested in participating in and promoting undergraduate research and campus life. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have extensive experience teaching freshman composition, American literature, film studies, creative writing, and/or who have experience with teaching in the public schools; however, particularly strong candidates without one of these secondary specializations will be considered. Experience in developing and teaching online courses is also an advantage, but the candidate should expect to primarily teach in the traditional face-to-face classroom.

Candidates must have at minimum an earned Master’s degree in English, but a completed doctorate is beneficial. 

All qualified applicants must be professing Christians and be active, faithful members of a congregation and be willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university.

Major Responsibilities:

Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and show promise of becoming an exceptional teacher who values mentoring and advising students. This position carries a 4/4 teaching load primarily teaching first-year composition classes as well as occasional upper-division courses, depending on applicant’s areas of teaching expertise. In addition, candidates will be expected to commit to advising/mentoring students and/or working with the department’s instructional technology, social media, and website design.

Lubbock Christian University is a private, masters-level university as classified by the Carnegie Foundation. Founded in 1957 and located in Lubbock, Texas, LCU is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. LCU is accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges Commission on Colleges and is a member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Currently, 88 full-time faculty members serve approximately 1750 undergraduate and graduate students on the LCU campus located in west Lubbock. Lubbock is a vibrant city with a population of about 250,000. Lubbock is the educational, medical, retail and entertainment center of the southern high plains of Texas.
