Exempt staff position responsible for academic advising and retention of freshmen students
Provost Department:
The Provost Department is responsible for all aspects of the academic enterprise and is principally comprised of (1) the Office of Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies and (2) the Office of Research and University Sponsored Programs, each led by an associate provost.
Office of Research and University Sponsored Programs: This office directs and coordinates programs that support the academic enterprise at LCU. These include the Center for Teaching, Learning and Scholarship, the Global Campus, The Institutional Research Board, Academic Grants and Grants Administration, the Rhodes Family Institute for Undergraduate Research, and special academic advising programs like Elevate and Compass.
Qualifications:
This position requires a 4-year bachelor’s degree. Previous experience working in a higher education student support services, counseling, or social work setting is recommended. All qualified applicants must be professing Christians and be willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university. Preference will be given to active, faithful members of a congregation of the Churches of Christ.
Major Responsibilities: Provide academic advising for freshmen students and promote student academic success and retention through collaboration with faculty and student support services to identify students at risk and facilitate connections to support resources.
Successful applicants will be expected to:
- Provide individual academic advising services to freshmen students assisting them with enrollment choices including creating schedules and navigating degree plans
- Provide individualized assistance in exploring career and degree options
- Act as a liaison for academic support services such as tutoring, library services, Writing Center, and Center for Student Success
- Act as a liaison for students with various student affairs areas such as Counseling Center, Student Disability Services, Financial Assistance, and Student Business Office
- Serve as a liaison for the academic programs with campus retention committees and software to track student performance, identify student at risk for attrition, and engage students in timely intervention.
- Act a liaison for at-risk students whether self-identified or faculty/staff identified to create programs of support and targeted interventions.
- Assist Admissions Department personnel for on-campus recruiting events through-out the year and during academic onboarding programs in the summer.
