Position: Dean, Hancock College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, twelve-month appointment

Hancock College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS):

The CLASS is one of 6 primary academic units at Lubbock Christian University. The college consists of 4 academic departments, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Humanities, and Visual and Performing Arts, and provides undergraduate programing in a wide array of majors in areas such as Art, Music, Theater, Psychology, Family Studies, Criminal Justice, Law Studies, History, English, Linguistics, Humanities, and Heritage & Museum Studies. The college is also home to a robust graduate program in Counseling with concentrations in mental health counseling, school counseling, and couples, marriage and family counseling. 

Qualifications:

The CLASS seeks a dean who can lead the faculty and contribute to the mission of preparing students for their calling as Christ-centered professionals, fully equipped for lives of Christian service and leadership.

An earned doctorate in a discipline represented within the CLASS is required. An exceptional record of teaching, scholarly activity, and professional service is required. Previous leadership in the academy and some degree of donor development/fundraising experience are expected. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education as well as a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. The university is affiliated with the Churches of Christ fellowship. All qualified applicants must be professing Christians, active in their faith, and enthusiastically supportive of university’s Christian mission. Preference will be giving to members of the Churches of Christ fellowship. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership with a compelling vision for the CLASS
  • Demonstrate excellent people/communication skills with the ability to articulate and promote the mission of the university
  • Provide oversight and management of fiscal and personnel matters
  • Engage in successful fundraising
  • Carry out strategic planning and assessment

The dean reports to the provost and will work closely with other senior academic officers of the university. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership for the faculty and staff in the CLASS
  • Provide strategic visioning for the CLASS
  • Work closely with the provost to provide strategic vision and leadership for the university
  • Work closely with the department chairs within CLASS on curriculum and program direction
  • Teach a minimum of 9 hours each calendar year
  • Other duties as assigned by the provost

Lubbock Christian University is a private, masters-level university as classified by the Carnegie Foundation. Founded in 1957 and located in Lubbock, Texas, LCU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is also a member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Lubbock is a vibrant city with a population of about 300,000. Colloquially known as the “Hub City”, Lubbock is the educational, medical, retail and entertainment center of the southern high plains of Texas.
