HVAC Technician

Functional Title: HVAC Technician
Classification: Non-Exempt Hourly
Division: Facilities
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Director of Facilities

Primary Function: The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing installations, repairs and maintenance to a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation systems and components. 

Major Duties:

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, clean, and repair and make modifications to HVAC System
  • Analyze, Plan, and Perform Preventive Maintenance of HVAC System
  • Install and start new equipment and controls
  • Adhere to all city, state, and federal regulatory statutes
  • Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulations
  • Ability to supervise one or more Mechanics and/or Trades Helpers
  • Responds to emergencies during evening, nighttime, and weekend hours
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to help students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner
  • Understands how to use hand and power tools and refrigeration and air conditioning gages, meters, and other similar measuring equipment associated with the trades
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unit of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Understands and has mastered all types of refrigeration and HVAC systems and how each component within the system operates in conjunction with the other components and how that impacts the overall operations of the system as a whole
  • Ability to read blueprints and HVAC diagrams, repair, and program controls
  • Strong ability to multitask and problem solve
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality is essential
  • Must have current and valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Ability to drive

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Trade or vocational school preferred
  • Must possess a valid EPA 608 Certification
  • 5+ years of experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:
  • Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings
  • Required to regularly sit and stand
  • Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
  • Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 50+lbs.

NOTE: All LCU employees are required to complete Title IX & Information Security (FERPA) training and Data Security Training at the time of new hire and on an annual basis thereafter. Some positions/departments may require additional training for security or data needs.
