Presidential Interim Leadership Team

Following the final day of L. Timothy Perrin’s appointment as the sixth President of Lubbock Christian University, the LCU Board of Trustees began the search process to find the next individual who would serve the university as president. For the duration of that search process, the board has appointed a Presidential Interim Leadership Team to manage the day-to-day operations of the university. For this vital role, the board selected Dr. Foy Mills, Jr. – LCU Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Alwin Roberts – President of the LCU Foundation, and Dr. Brian Starr – LCU Executive Vice President. Working in tandem, these three draw upon a wealth of experience and passion for the university to ensure that LCU remains true to its core values and ideals while the search for the next president continues.

Dr. Foy Mills, Jr.

Dr. Foy Mills, Jr. (’80) was named the Provost and Chief Academic Officer for LCU in the summer of 2018, in a sense coming “home” to Lubbock Christian University to serve at his undergraduate alma mater.

Dr. Mills began his professional career at LCU in 1981 as an instructor in agribusiness.  Upon completion of his doctorate at Texas Tech University, he served on the faculties of The University of Georgia, Abilene Christian University, and at Sam Houston State University, also serving as a department chair and program leader at various times, along with his teaching and research responsibilities. During his time in academia, he has also served the US and international peanut industry in research and leadership roles. Mills has served in several national leadership roles and is currently President of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture.

Dr. Mills is married to Mitzi (Ayers) Mills (’80).  He has two daughters, Whitney Mills Kasinger and Lindsey Mills Kennedy (’06), who along with their husbands, are parents to their six grandchildren.

Al Roberts

Al Roberts has served as President of the LCU Foundation since 2015. Prior to that appointment, Roberts worked for 30 years in the telecommunications industry, leading teams in executive positions within Verizon, Qwest, and Century Link. Though not an LCU alumnus himself, Roberts was drawn into the community when his son Bryan played baseball as a student-athlete. Roberts served on the LCU Board of Trustees for five years.

Roberts attended the University of Kansas as a student-athlete and graduated with both his BS and MBA.  After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy, and they have three children Jon, Bryan (’09) and Abby.

Dr. Brian Starr

Prior to becoming an educator of college students, Brian Starr forged for himself a reputation in a variety of business endeavors, including leading teams of professionals in the retirement consulting business. He also served as a college minister during that time and found his passion for teaching and mentoring students.
He joined LCU as a faculty member in 2004. His educational pursuits include a BS in Ag Business, an MA in Religion from ACU, and an MBA from the University of Texas. In the summer of 2009, he obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Texas Tech University.

Brian is married to, Kristi, and they have three children – Josh, Caleb, and Rachel.
