In November, at the 22nd Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon, Ann and Craig McDonald were honored with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award. The McDonalds were nominated for the award by Raymond Richardson, vice president of advancement at Lubbock Christian University.
The Outstanding Philanthropist Award was announced by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Texas Plains Chapter on National Philanthropy Day. The AFP focuses efforts on advancing philanthropy in Texas, thus creating a culture of community, giving, and advocacy.
LCU has been blessed by the generous support the McDonalds have offered over the years. The McDonalds underwrote the renovation of the Moody Auditorium, now known as the McDonald Moody Auditorium, which hosts regular events like chapel and large performances like the annual musical and Master Follies.
The McDonalds also gave lead gifts for the Rip Griffin Center and James and Jeanette Ling Science Center.
The McDonalds have supported numerous organizations and initiatives, but three other projects that bear the results of their leadership stand out:
- LCU 2020 Vision Capital Campaign Chairs
- Lubbock Christian School Eagle Athletic Center
- Lubbock Roots Historical Arts Council
The McDonalds serve joyfully and intentionally, demonstrating the qualities the award honors: exceptional generosity, outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and encouragement for others to step into leadership roles.
“The McDonalds have given in a way that makes others want to follow,” said Lindsey Holt, director of stewardship at LCU, in the nomination summary for the award. “The McDonalds give to make a deep and meaningful impact, not for their name to be included on a donor wall or for self-recognition. Together, they have been able to greatly enrich countless organizations with their understanding of business and art.”
