The CH Foundation has awarded a grant to endow the Gary and Pat Estep Institute for Health Professions at Lubbock Christian University, providing sustained support for the Institute’s work to prepare students for careers in healthcare and veterinary medicine and strengthen the pipeline of professionals serving West Texas and beyond.
The CH Foundation’s mission is to significantly improve human services and cultural and educational opportunities for residents of the South Plains of Texas. The Foundation supports initiatives driven by innovative, energetic leadership and designed for long-term viability. Its support of the Estep Institute will provide a lasting foundation for the program and the students it serves.

LCU has a rich history of preparing students for successful entrance into graduate programs in healthcare fields, and many of those students choose to serve in the West Texas region. The Estep Institute funds will directly support the development of these future healthcare providers and contribute to a healthy and vibrant healthcare workforce in our region for years to come,” said Toby Rogers, Ph.D., Dean of the B. Ward Lane College of Science and Health Professions.
Established in 2023, the Gary and Pat Estep Institute for Health Professions honors the legacy of Gary Estep, Ph.D., who served LCU for 42 years as Dean, Professor, Department Chair, and Pre-Health Professions Advisor in the B. Ward Lane College of Science and Health Professions.
Through the Office of Health Professions, the Estep Institute provides a coordinated pathway of support for students pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and allied health professions. Students receive individualized guidance, faculty mentorship, academic advising, and opportunities for healthcare shadowing, internships, undergraduate research, medical missions, and service learning.
The Institute’s programming also includes scholarships, research fellowships, support for engagement with professional programs throughout Texas, professional test preparation, application guidance, and mock interviews. These resources help students navigate the rigorous application process for professional programs while developing a Christ-centered perspective on their future vocations.
Since its inception in 2023, 94 students have been accepted into post-graduate programs while benefiting from resources and opportunities provided through the Estep Institute. Many LCU graduates go on to serve in West Texas to support ongoing workforce needs across healthcare and veterinary medicine.
Through the generosity of The CH Foundation, the Estep Institute will have a lasting foundation for equipping future healthcare and veterinary professionals with the academic preparation, mentorship, and experiences needed to serve others through their chosen professions.
