Competitive Cheerleading Begins at LCU in Fall 2018

Lubbock Christian University is proud to announce their support of a competitive cheerleading program beginning in the fall of 2018. This program will operate within the Department of Athletics and will provide opportunities for students to receive scholarships. The cheerleading program will compete in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA).

"We are excited about bringing competitive cheer to LCU," said Paul Hise, director of athletics. "This program will have a great impact on our campus and in the community and also provide a better game-day experience for our student-athletes and fans. We also believe that competitive cheer will help us take another step forward as we strive to become a model NCAA Division II athletic program.”

Kayli Durham has been hired as head cheerleading coach and will begin recruiting immediately.

Hise continued, “She will provide great passion and leadership in her role, and we are looking forward to supporting her as she builds this program from the ground up."

Durham was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas and graduated from Ropes High School. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Broadcast Communications from Dallas Baptist University in 2011. She cheered at Dallas Baptist University from 2008-2011 and was a member of DBU's first-ever cheer team to compete at the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate National Championships. She is married to her husband of six years, Adam, and they have two children (Duke and Brighton Kate).

"College cheerleading made me the person I am today, so I am excited for the opportunity to grow and build the cheerleading program at LCU," said Durham. "I am thankful to be a part of the LCU family. Go Chaps!"
