The Eppler Award, established in 2007, recognizes individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the Lubbock community through economic education, business development, and civic engagement. Named in honor of longtime Lubbock business leader and community advocate James D. He taught at LCU as an adjunct professor from 1990 to 2014 and has since continued to guide and inspire future educators through his teaching and mentorship.

In addition to his work in the classroom and in administration, Dr. Ayers has presented at numerous state and national conferences and authored more than 15 biographical and informational books highlighting regional leaders and stories.
