Family Weekend Includes Annual Events and Fall Musical Production of "Into the Woods"

“Into the Woods”

The <link nc events cal tx_cal_phpicalendar event calset hash>LCU fall musical, “Into the Woods” with book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, features a collection of popular fairytales including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood as their stories cross in a mysterious woods where wishes tend to come true – no matter how devastating the results. Into the Woods graphicPrincipals from the cast agree that “Into the Woods” is full of valuable lessons, including being careful what you wish for and that no one is ever truly alone. "Despite how dark things may seem, redemption, grace, and forgiveness can be found when we let go of ourselves and focus on the Lord and the good of others," explains Joshua Dansby, who plays the Baker in the production. Directed by Dr. Laurie Doyle, “Into the Woods” will run in the McDonald Moody Auditorium on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $17.50 for adults and $10 for seniors, students, and children. There will also be a matinee of Act I on Saturday at 2 p.m. for $10. The matinee follows a special family event called “Picnic in the Woods” where families will interact with characters from the show as they eat. The cast is excited to present the storybook fairy tales and the lessons they leave with the audience. "I hope the audience realizes that even through all the hectic, sad, crazy moments in life, there will always be a glimmer of hope," said Kayla Emerson, who plays the Baker’s Wife. Student Sampler

Each year, student musical groups showcase their talent and creativity in a Saturday chapel and mini-concert called the Student Sampler. This year the sampler will be at 10 a.m. in the Collier Auditorium in the Talkington Nursing Center and will feature Praise Choir, Chamber Singers, Symphonic Band, Best Friends, Forte, and the Jazz Ensemble.

LCU 1GNITE

1GNITE info graphic1GNITE is a reception honoring first generation students. 1gnite will allow first generation students and their families to learn about valuable resources LCU provides. The reception will be Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. in the Cardwell Welcome Center.

LCU Ring Ceremony

Juniors or seniors who have over 60 credit hours have the opportunity to order their official LCU ring. Students are presented their class rings at an official ring ceremony. A ring ceremony is held once a semester: one at Family Weekend in the fall and one at Homecoming in the spring. The fall ring ceremony will be Saturday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. in the Baker Conference Center.

Alpha Chi Honor Society Induction

Alpha Chi is a national honor society focused in academic excellence for undergraduate juniors and seniors. Students are chosen for the honor society from their GPAs and character recommendations from professors. On Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1:15 p.m. in the Baker Conference Center, newly eligible students will be inducted into Alpha Chi.
