On Tuesday Oct. 13, 2015, LCU hosted “An Evening of Inspiration with Bob Goff,” the New York Times Best Selling Author of "Love Does." This was the inaugural event in a series of inspiring guests set to visit LCU. The evening was made possible largely through the generosity of President’s Circle members that are continually propelling the university forward. Goff is an author, an attorney, and the founder of <link http: restoreinternational.org external-link-new-window external link in new>Restore International, a nonprofit human rights organization operating in India, Uganda, Iraq, Nepal, and Somalia. Goff is a master story teller, and through his presentations and his book “Love Does,” he encourages listeners and readers to show love through action, not merely in thought or intention. Goff hoped his presentation would inspire the audience at LCU. “There are a lot of people that just agree with Jesus, but then there are some people that actually want to do what Jesus said. These people don’t need a lot of information; they need stories of action. Hopefully, through the stories I can share, we’ll land right at the feet of Jesus,” said Goff. Prior to the dinner and presentation, Goff met with LCU President Tim Perrin for a brief interview dubbed the inaugural “Chap Chat” in the McDonald Moody Auditorium. The stage of the Moody was staged to recreate Tom Sawyer Island from Disneyland in honor of Goff’s visit. Goff is very fond of the theme park attraction, considering it to be like an office and frequently holding meetings there. The set at LCU included a wooden cabin, picnic benches, and a raft tucked into a bed of shrubs. Dinner was served at 6:00 p.m. in the Baker Conference Center and included a performance by the LCU Chamber Singers and a Q&A with Goff. The theater presentation began at 7:30 p.m. in the Moody. After Goff spoke, President Perrin facilitated three student questions and Chamber Singers performed a second time.
