On Aug. 30, the James and Jeanette Ling Science Center was officially dedicated, marking a significant moment for both Lubbock Christian University and the science programs on campus. “The result of many years of planning, this beautiful new facility will effectively serve future generations of LCU students and faculty, deepening opportunities for learning, research, and collaboration,” said LCU President Tim Perrin. The approximately 37,000 square foot facility includes laboratories for chemistry, physics, biology, natural resources, animal science, and undergrad and faculty research. Additionally, it contains lecture halls, faculty offices, common areas for students, and an atrium at the entryway. The opening of the Ling Science Center symbolizes the growth and advancement of the science programs, which remains one of the largest and fastest growing academic areas at LCU. The construction of the science center was part of LCU’s 2020 Vision Campaign which envisions and implements academic and structural improvements to the campus. “We offer a special note of thanks for the many friends and alumni whose generous support helped this dream become a reality. It’s another great day to be a Chap!” President Perrin added. Hanson Ling (’69) provided the lead gift for the science center and the building was named in honor of his parents, James and Jeanette. Ling has previously partnered with LCU on a number of initiatives and provided the lead donation for the Diane Ling Center for Academic Achievement, named in honor of his aunt. “Hanson has an amazing heart and a strong desire to see the students at Lubbock Christian University succeed in big ways. He loves the Lord, and makes a positive impact in the lives of those around him,” said Raymond Richardson, vice president of development. Ling’s father passed away, but his mother and other family – living in Lubbock, New Jersey, Australia, and Hong Kong – are excited to see the building open. The science center began hosting classes when the 2017-18 academic year began. At the dedication ceremony, guests had the opportunity to explore the new facilities, including the neighboring greenhouse which is nearing completion. Richardson read a statement prepared by Ling, which is also featured in a panel on the wall of the atrium in the new building.

“A vision without resources is just a dream. In order to make this dream come true, over 1,000 friends of LCU came together to complete this project. The LORD inspired a team of ordinary people to achieve common goal, in His time, for His glory. The best sermon is lived, not preached; this building represents faith in action. May this building be a living monument to honor the Living Word. May the students who learn here be living sermons wherever they go. May our goals and ambitions always honor Thy name. In His time, in His time, He makes all things beautiful in His time. All I have needed, Thy hand hath provided, great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.”
