Lubbock Christian University’s Art program and Theatre department will be hosting summer camps June 22-26. Using the creative outlets of Art and Theatre, campers will experience and study many countries such as China, Mexico, and Nigeria with LCU professors. Snacks will be provided at both camps.
LCU’s professor, Ronnelle Howell, will be directing this year’s Art Camp. She will be guiding students entering 3rd grade through completion of 8th grade through an immersive journey, All Around the World. Campers will be using clay, recyclable materials, and paint. Howell will take them on a journey looking at scriptures, literatures and mosaics from China, all around Africa, Mexico, and other countries.
Students' work will be displayed on Friday, June 26. Materials and snacks will be provided for each student. Spots are limited, giving campers greater interaction with professors.
Dr. Laurie Doyle, Chair of the Communications and Fine Arts department, will be hosting the Theatre Camp for students entering 7th grade through students completing high school. Actors are asked to bring a monologue or musical theater song to work on acting and singing skills. If actors do not have a song or monologue chosen, Dr. Doyle will provide assistance in finding material.
A performance of their piece will be presented to friends and family at the end of the week.
“We hope to help student actors learn to prepare for auditions as they come up during the year,” Doyle shared. “Classes will be taught by LCU alums who are theatre teachers and/or directors.”
Campers may choose to participate in both Art and Theater camps. Enrollment for both camps is $300 per student, or $150 for one of the camps. Discounts are available for multiple siblings and for early registration (before June 17). Snacks will be provided at both camps.
