Lubbock Christian University’s Division of Music hosted Lights, Camera, Music – A Dinner Concert in the Baker Conference Center to raise funds for their trip to San Antonio, where they premiered The Enchanted Rock alongside St. Mary’s University.
The evening featured the LCU Symphonic Band and Jazz Band performing beloved music from the silver screen, bringing iconic movie moments to life. Audience members enjoyed selections from blockbuster films and timeless favorites, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Superman, and more.
Guests were treated to a casual dinner concert complete with classic movie concessions including fresh popcorn, soft drinks, a nacho bar, pizza, and candy, creating a fun, family-friendly night of entertainment.
All proceeds from the event benefitted the LCU Symphonic Band’s upcoming tour to San Antonio, which happened almost immediately after.
“Lights, Camera, Music! was such a fantastic evening!” shared Dr. Lisa Tatum, Director of LCU Bands. “The funds we raised from the event were instrumental in paying for our trip expenses, and we're already looking at how we can possibly make this an annual event!”
The ensemble traveled to San Antonio, where they rehearsed and performed alongside the St. Mary’s University Wind Ensemble. The tour included a world premiere performance of Enchanted Rock by composer Charles Booker, offering students a unique and prestigious performance opportunity.
“It was really important for me to provide this experience for our wonderful LCU band students. Music is a universal language and getting out and performing with other people like you in the world is incredibly special. One of my favorite parts of the trip was seeing the LCU and St Mary's students interact on stage and at shared meals. Performing a world premier is not as common as one would think, and joining the two bands together for Enchanted Rock really made the piece come alive! I know this trip will be a lifelong memory for our students.”
