The connection between faith and business is central to the work of the LCU College of Business and its Center for Faith and Business, where students are challenged to consider how their faith shapes the way they approach their work, leadership, and relationships in the marketplace.
That mission will be reflected on Monday, Oct. 5, when LCU hosts its annual Business As a Calling lunch event featuring two longtime Lubbock business leaders, Robert Taylor and John Zwaicher.
Taylor, former CEO of United Supermarkets, led the company through years of significant growth while earning a reputation for servant leadership and community impact. Zwaicher, a third-generation owner of Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet-Buick-Subaru, has continued his family’s legacy through a commitment to integrity, customer service, and decades of civic leadership.
During a moderated question-and-answer session led by Dan Williams, broker and owner of Williams & Company Real Estate, Taylor and Zwaicher will share insights from their careers and discuss the faith, leadership, and values that have shaped their approach to business and service to the community.
“The LCU College of Business educates students for lives of purpose and service in the business community,” said Tracy Mack, dean of the College of Business. “We desire for our students to excel as business leaders and faithful stewards of God’s blessings. Business As a Calling is an event that highlights the work of successful business leaders who also live lives of faith. Robert Taylor and John Zwaicher are two local legends of the Lubbock business community and excellent examples of the type of business leaders LCU seeks to educate.”
The event reflects the broader mission of LCU’s Center for Faith and Business, which seeks to help students recognize the connection between their faith and their calling in the marketplace. Through classroom experiences, conversations with faith-oriented business leaders, and mentorship opportunities with entrepreneurs and professionals, the Center helps students explore what it means to live out their faith through their vocations.
The Center’s mission emphasizes helping students become salt and light in the marketplace as they engage the business world. Through firsthand interaction with business leaders, students have opportunities to see how faith can influence leadership, organizational culture, decision-making, and service to others.
Business As a Calling extends that educational experience beyond the classroom, bringing students and members of the Lubbock community together to hear from leaders whose professional accomplishments are accompanied by a commitment to serving others.
Reservations are required by Wednesday, Sept. 23. Individual tickets are $50, and table sponsorships for eight are $500. Table sponsors receive preferred seating, recognition in the event program, and company or name signage at the table.
