Lubbock Christian University (LCU) hosted the 12th Annual Lanier Theological Library Lecture on Thursday, September 7 in the Margaret Talkington Center for Nursing Education. Dr. Darrell L. Bock gave the featured lecture entitled, “Coping with Pluralism: A Biblical Alternative to Culture War.”
Dr. Bock is a Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies and the Executive Director for Cultural Engagement at the Howard G. Hendricks Center for Christian Leadership and Cultural Engagement at the Dallas Theological Seminary. He has written approximately 40 books and is a New York Times best-selling author. Bock’s special fields of study involve hermeneutics, the use of the Old Testament in the New Testament, Luke-Acts, the historical Jesus, gospel studies and the integration of theology of culture. It is the latter area that is the focus of his work at the Center where he is responsible for producing a web-based, weekly podcast on issues of God and culture called The Table.
Dr. Bock has served on the board of Chosen People Ministries for over a decade and on the board at Wheaton College for several years. He also serves as elder emeritus at Trinity Fellowship Church in Richardson, Texas, is editor at large for Christianity Today, and served as President of the Evangelical Theological Society for the year 2000-2001.
Thanks to the generosity of the Lanier Theological Library, LCU has hosted the lectures for the last eleven years, providing scholarly presentations to the Lubbock community. In addition to hosting the Dead Seas Scrolls exhibit on campus as part of one lecture series, a variety of thought-provoking topics have been covered over the years including, "Does the Bible Support Slavery?" and "C.S. Lewis and the Post-Modern Generation: His Message 50 Years Later."
