While many are familiar with Lubbock Christian University’s online radio station, Chap Radio, the station can now be heard live and on-air via the FM radio dial at 99.1. The FCC approved a Low Power FM license for KCLT-LP Chap Radio in April of 2015. “We are very pleased that we are finished with the station construction, and are now officially on the air,” said Professor Shawn Hughes, who serves as the program coordinator for the radio station. “We have been on the Internet for a few years now, but now people can listen to us on their FM radio in the home and car, as well as on their phones. So they may already be listening, and this gives them a whole new way to enjoy our programming.” Chap Radio, named after the university’s Chaparral school mascot, serves multiple purposes. While primarily used as a training facility for student broadcasters involved in LCU’s communication program, Chap Radio also serves as an extracurricular activity for students across campus, allowing them to host their own show on the station. “We have all types of student shows, including sports talk, classic rock, Christian, and my favorite – Texas Country. We have listeners from all over the globe thanks to the internet,” said recent LCU graduate and former Chap Radio station manager Chase Stewart. LCU President Tim Perrin also thanked the generous donors who have made the station possible saying, “This is an excellent opportunity for the Lubbock community to connect with our students here at LCU.” Chap Radio offers student programming as well as general music programming. The station is also available at chapradio.com and has apps for download for both Apple iOS and Android phones.
