LCU had a strong representation at the 30^th Anniversary National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) with <link https: lcu.edu fileadmin user_upload ncur_2016_attendees.docx external-link-new-window external link in new>13 students and eight mentors in attendance. Hosted at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where NCUR was first launched in 1987, the conference provided a venue to celebrate student achievement in all areas of study, through oral presentations, posters, and visual arts. Around 3,500 students and their faculty mentors present annually at the conference. In addition to student presentations, the conference features keynote speakers, representatives from graduate schools, and group excursions. "NCUR is a place where people can come to share their thoughts and ideas with other students and faculty from across disciplines. The environment is encouraging, the people are friendly, and the research is fascinating,” said Cassidy Flow, a senior education major. “It was definitely worth the hard work that was put into the project." The LCU group traveled to Asheville, N.C. on Wednesday, April 6 to present their research projects at the conference. Students from LCU felt confident presenting, even among students from large and commonly recognized universities. They returned Saturday, April 9. “I was very comfortable with our research, mostly because of our mentors encouragement and critique. I am usually terrified of presenting any kind of material without notes, let alone theologically and philosophically saturated material,” senior Bible major Jonathan Dansby explained about his NCUR experience. “That’s not to say I wasn’t mortified during the presentation this past weekend,” Dansby continued. “That is to say something to the quality of preparation and cultivation of presentation and interpretive skills fostered by our dedicated and more-than-qualified faculty mentors.
