Due to COVID-19 concerns, Lubbock Christian University has announced that the weeklong summer camps Encounter and Camp Champion have been cancelled for 2020.
“Please know that this very difficult decision was made with prayerful consideration and with the health and safety of campers, counselors, and camp staff in mind,” said President McDowell. “In lieu of having week-long experiences of Encounter and Camp Champion, three exciting opportunities are being planned.”
The first of these events is Encounter Online, planned for June 7th at 7:00 p.m. During this event Josh Stephens, Katie Turnipseed, and Marty Baker will be giving away prizes before a time of worship with Thomas Aduddell and Best Friends. After that, the audience will hear from LCU’s very own David Fraze, who has been a staple on the Encounter stage for years. “While this will be different from the normal Encounter experience, it will be a unique way of connecting and hearing from our Encounter team,” shared McDowell.
Following Encounter Online, LCU will send out a series of video links to the churches who are a part of our LCU Summer Camp family containing worship and a lesson from an Encounter or Camp Champion teacher. Churches will be free to utilize these videos any way they like.
In addition to these summer opportunities, Encounter LE will returning for the fall of 2020. Lubbock Christian University will be inviting all middle school and high school students to come to campus from November 6-8, where they will hear from some of LCU summer camps’ most popular teachers and keynotes and share in a time of worship.
LCU Summer Camps is currently in the process of providing full refunds of any payment received, and the Summer Camps team is committed to praying for those who would have attended Encounter and Camp Champion.
