An expected record number of freshmen moved into residence halls on the Lubbock Christian University (LCU) campus on Thursday, marking the 70th freshman class to call LCU home. This large number of new students illustrates the great momentum being experienced by LCU as it begins celebrating its 70th year.
LCU staff, faculty, current students, and alumni continued the tradition of showing up in force to assist students and their families as they settled into their new home away from home. Following move-in, students began orientation, a weekend full of connection and community.
LCU President Scott McDowell was among the volunteers, creating opportunities to build connections and get to know students. “Move-in day is one of my favorite days on campus,” he shared. “There’s something powerful about watching new students and their families arrive, knowing this is the beginning of a journey that will help shape who they become. We’re honored to be a part of that journey with them.”
Last year, LCU welcomed its largest freshman class in university history with 450 students, a 31% increase over the previous record of 343. This year’s freshman class is expected to surpass that record, marking a second consecutive year of record enrollment.
“For the second consecutive year, Lubbock Christian University is welcoming a record freshman class,” said Dr. Jody Reding, LCU Vice President for Enrollment Management. “There’s a tremendous sense of excitement on campus. The momentum we are experiencing reflects a mission that resonates with families. People are drawn to Christ-centered education, they’re drawn to exceptional professional outcomes, and they’re drawn to our community, a community where students are known and valued.”
Move-in day is just the beginning of the weekend. Students will begin orientation later in the day participating in a variety of activities to help their transition into the college life, begin to make friends, and begin to experience the LCU brand promise, “We Walk with You.”
Returning students will arrive on campus this weekend as classes officially begin Monday, August 24. The first day of the 70th academic year will also continue a decades-long tradition with LCU’s Opening Chapel, bringing students, faculty, and staff together to begin the academic year in worship and community.
