Lubbock Christian University (LCU) Theatre presented its fall musical production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA! on Saturday, October 11, and Sunday, October 12 in the McDonald Moody Auditorium.

Directed by Dr. Laurie Doyle, Helen DeVitt Jones Endowed Chair of Fine Arts, the production continues LCU’s tradition of bringing meaningful and memorable performances to the community. Since joining the LCU faculty in 1983, Dr. Doyle has directed more than 80 stage productions, and she looks forward to sharing this beloved classic with audiences this fall.

“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA! is one of those timeless shows that never loses its heart,” said Dr. Doyle. “It’s filled with joy, humor, and hope, and at its core, it’s about the strength of community and the courage to look forward to a brighter future. We are thrilled to invite our friends and neighbors to join us for an evening of music and storytelling that uplifts and inspires.”

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration, OKLAHOMA! broke new ground in American musical theatre and remains one of the most treasured shows of all time. The story, set in a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, unfolds against the spirited rivalry of farmers and cowboys. Audiences will follow Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, as they navigate the twists and turns of young love. Their romance is interwoven with the comedic escapades of Ado Annie and Will Parker, in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination, and the promise of a new land.
