Master Follies: Feels Like Home

Categories: Helpful Links
The annual performance of Master Follies is one of Lubbock Christian University’s oldest and most cherished traditions. Dr. Wayne Hinds, founding faculty member and chorus director, envisioned Master Follies 56 years ago when the university needed a way to purchase a nine-foot concert grand piano. The LCU musical group Music Masters sponsored the student talent show, resulting in the name Master Follies. For several years the talent show was open to any individual student or student group on campus. Today, Master Follies consists of performances from the eight LCU social clubs using songs and choreography to tell an original story. At Follies you might see dancing crayons, hyper baristas, frightened flight attendants, a rocking marching-band, or champion boxers. The plot-lines are unique and themes entertaining. Between the shows presented by the clubs, six students serve as hosts and hostesses for the evening. The students were selected through auditions and perform musical numbers in between the club shows to allow transition time for each club show. This year’s hosts and hostesses are: Kallie Clark, Theatre Education major from Denver City; Trey Dye, General Business major from Rowlett; Adam Goodnight, Sports Psychology major from Lake Dallas; Kelsea McNeill, Psychology major from Happy; Andi Rose, Humanities major from Canyon; and Jesse Walton, Math major from Weatherford. Among the social clubs, the women of Christliche Damen, Kappa Phi Kappa, Lambda Omega Alpha, and Zeta Gamma will compete in the women’s division, and the men of Alpha Chi Delta, Koinonia, Kyodai, and Sub-T 16 will compete in the men’s division. Assessments of judges from each performance are tallied on the final night to determine winners in men's and women's categories. Audience members vote for the People’s Choice Award, while the Follies tech crew vote for the Special Effects Award and the Spirit of Follies Award.
