The Lubbock Christian University School of Nursing was honored as a Hunger Hero at the annual Mayor’s Hunger Hero Program luncheon in recognition of their involvement with the South Plains Food Bank (SPFB).
The luncheon Sept. 21 was the 27th annual event that honors volunteers who have made efforts to provide food for food insecure families. The Doug Carlson “Hunger Hero of the Year” award was presented to a group and individual from the gathered honorees.
Dr. Mark Wilkinson, professor of nursing, encouraged his students to participate at the SPFB, leading to the nomination of the LCU School of Nursing as a Hunger Hero. He, Susan Dossey, adjunct professor of nursing, and several students attended the luncheon.
According to SPFB, the event welcomes volunteers in honor of their “hard work as we work together to alleviate hunger and give hope to the hungry of the South Plains.”
