Master Follies, a student variety show, is one of the longest standing traditions on the LCU campus. The very first performance of Master Follies was held in December of 1958, during the second year of the University’s existence. In the early years, the acts consisted of individuals, small groups of students, and social clubs. Over time, the show became a contest between social clubs to gain bragging rights and trophies for who could entertain the audience best with a 5-7 minute parody in which club members act, dance, and tell a story through song. In the mid-1970’s, students auditioned to be the hosts and hostesses for the show, providing entertainment between the club shows and resulting in a more cohesive program. The contest between the clubs continues to be decided by guest judges, but in more recent years, the coveted People’s Choice Award was introduced, allowing audience members to choose their favorite show performed by one of the social clubs.
