Reports To: Director of the Center for Student Success

Primary Function: Retention of undergraduate students who enroll at Lubbock Christian University

Major Duties:

  • Engage with students for academic success, both to increase overall success proactively and to develop action plans with students who may be struggling.
  • Take primary mentoring responsibility for the educational experience of assigned students.
  • Meet with assigned students frequently to develop proper study habits, time management methods and other skills that foster student success.
  • Regularly document the student’s progress toward identified goals and ensure notes are maintained in the student’s personal file.
  • Support the student to develop a positive relationship with professors and peers.
  • Coordinate with faculty to better advise and support students.
  • Assist students with the registration process each semester to ensure students are progressing towards their degree.
  • Make recommendations for one-on-one or group tutoring, study groups, and additional faculty instruction or other academic support resources on campus.
  • Conduct in-class presentations on time management, learning strategies and other related topics.
  • Be knowledgeable of other campus support resources available for students and refer students for additional support as needed.
  • Encourage students to engage in social, spiritual life, student development, and service opportunities on campus and in the community.
  • Keep track of data and trends pertaining to retention across campus and identify methods to better serve students.
  • Reach out to students to promote CSS and campus-wide resources as well as communicate general information.
  • Manage outreach to groups like first-year, transfer, and international students.
  • Serve as the Designated School Official (DSO) for international students.
    • Serve as primary contact for undergraduate international students.
    • Ensure all documentation required by DHS for an F-1 Visa has been collected and verified.
    • Issue Form I-20 for F-1 students when documentation is complete
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of international students in the SEVIS database. This includes updating student information, tracking their academic progress, and reporting any changes in their status to DHS.
    • Assist PDSO (Principal Designated School Official) with advising, immigration requirements, OPT and CPT.
    • Work closely with the Athletic Department regarding international student-athlete status.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Accountability:

The Campus Mentors reports to the Center for Student Success Director, and must:

  • Maintain conduct consistent with Christian values and the values of the university.
  • Work with other university personnel to ensure all students have access.
  • Work closely with faculty to ensure students are on a path to academic success.  
  • Work closely with CSS team members to provide excellent resources for students.
  • Diligently maintain standards for compliance in reporting and documentation concerning international students and LCU programs for international students. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Have a record of successful administrative and/or appropriate student service experience.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:

  • Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
  • Required to regularly sit and stand.
  • Frequently use wrist, hands and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail and picking up small objects.
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
  • Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 25+lbs.
