Director of Accounting

Functional Title: Director of Accounting
Classification: Salary - Exempt

Primary Function: Directs the University’s accounting, payroll, and cashiering functions

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise accounting and clerical staff performing specialized or general accounting or finance-oriented functions related to the accounting cycle
  • Provide training of newly assigned or less experienced personnel
  • Provide for the accumulation of data and the preparation of financial reports, special projects, and analyses as needed 
  • Responsible for filing Quarterly and yearly tax reports along with monthly sales tax reporting to the state
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of bank accounts
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers
  • Administrate the University’s financial software
  • Post daily reports from the cashier and associated Advancement reports
  • Advises University management regarding the effective use of resources and methods to execute LCU’s mission

Duties:           

  • Facilitate posting of daily reports from subledgers including student and advancement ledgers
  • Facilitate balancing of daily cash receipts and bank deposits
  • Approving and recording entries that affect bank accounts
  • Approve and create new general ledger accounts as necessary
  • Approve posting of vendor payment journals
  • Approve payroll journal postings
  • Approve posting of general journal entries
  • Treasury management related to Federal Funds
  • Reconcile financial aid ledgers with Dep. of Ed. COD files
  • Facilitate funding of employee benefit plans
  • Assist LCU Financial Aid with preparation Dep. of Ed. annual FISAP Form
  • Assist with the external audits
  • Maintain payment orders for credit card transactions and approve use of card readers
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities as required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill in training others in the use of accounting software and related requisition management system

Education and Experience:

A minimum of bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting required. Three (3) years’ recent experience that is related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following:

  • Be ambulatory around campus and in buildings.
  • Required to regularly sit and stand.
  • Frequently use wrist, hands, and/or fingers to make small repetitive movements such as typing, distributing mail, and picking up small objects.
  • Ability to talk frequently to convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive verbal information.
  • Required to lift packages and/or move heavy objects, 25+lbs.

NOTE: All LCU employees are required to complete Title IX & Information Security (FERPA) training and Data Security Training at the time of new hire and on an annual basis thereafter. Some positions/departments may require additional training for security or data needs.
